The presidential committee to pardon young prisoners, which has been been formed by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, is mulling ways to re-integrate more than 330 young people back into society.

The committee has been coordinating with ministries and other state entities in that regard.

Committee member Karim al-Saqa said the committee is focusing on finding the right mechanism to help the pardoned prisoners to become integrated as useful members of society.

Sisi had formed the committee in October 2016 to discuss the situation of youths convicted in protests.

On Wednesday he pardoned 332 young people at the start of the holy month of Ramadan.

MP Tareq al-Khawli, who is also a committee member, said: “We are trying to help young people, who had been imprisoned and later pardoned, to return to their jobs and universities and limit their level of frustration.”

“This is not an easy task … but the ministries and involved entities confirmed to us that (their reintegration) can be done through a law,” he told Asharq Al-Awsat.
