Egypt President, Sultan of Brunei Boost Cooperation on Regional, Int’l Affairs

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held on Monday bilateral discussions with Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei, at the Ittihadiya presidential palace in Cairo.

They also stressed the need to intensify efforts towards regional and international developments.

According to a statement from the presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi, Sisi stressed that Bolkiah’s visit boosts bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the light of the great understanding between Egypt and Brunei on various regional and international issues.

He also expressed the hope to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Brunei in various fields, particularly on the religious, tourism, cultural and economic fronts.

Meanwhile, Sisi showcased Egypt’s efforts to combat extremist ideology over the past years.

He highlighted the role of Egypt’s religious institutions in correcting the wrong religious discourse, stressing Cairo’s keenness to continue the role of the al-Azhar in Brunei as a beacon to spread the noble and moderate values of true Islam.

For his part, Bolkiah underlined the depth of relations between the two countries, praising Egyptian achievements in combating terrorism, pushing forward economic reform and executing major national projects to achieve comprehensive development.
