Egypt’s Health Ministry announced the opening of more COVID-19 vaccination centers across the country to avoid the overcrowding witnessed in recent days.

Health Ministry Spokesman Khalid Mujahid said authorities have opened 40 more centers, taking the total to 139 throughout the country.

He said that with the addition of these centers, more messages encouraging people to get vaccinated will be sent out.

In televised comments on Friday, he revealed that 250 messages are set out each day, while authorities are aiming to increase the number of vaccination centers to 200, with 40 in Cairo alone.

Meanwhile, Presidential Adviser for Health Affairs, Mohamed Awad Tag Eddin, noted Saturday a surge in the number of coronavirus infections, while the death rate has remained stable.

He assured that the rise in cases was not a cause for alarm and not a sign that Egypt with witnessing a third wave of the pandemic.

The Ministry recorded 703 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 203,546, and 43 deaths, taking the toll to 12,084.

Tag Eddin urged the people to take the vaccine, saying it will lower the number of infections.

Vaccinated people also suffer less severe side effects, which are sometimes fatal, he added.
