The Egyptian Navy rescued last week ten crewmembers of a Lebanese cargo ship that sank off the coast of Alexandria in the Mediterranean Sea, an Egyptian military statement said.

Spokesperson of the armed forces Colonel Gharib Abdelhafez said on his official page that as part of the continued efforts to support maritime search and rescue work in all strategic routes on the Egyptian coast, the naval forces managed to rescue crewmembers of a Lebanese cargo ship after it sank off Alexandria.

He added that the Alexandria Port Authority received a distress signal from the Lebanese vessel “AYLA” on Saturday during its voyage from the port of Tripoli in Libya to Alexandria.

The Egyptian Al Arish rescue vessel was sent to offer aid and it succeeded in rescuing the entire crew, consisting of nine Syrians and one Indian.

The Port Authority added that the necessary medical care was provided to the ship’s crewmembers.
