Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi reiterated their determination to bolster African mechanisms for post-conflict reconstruction and development, counter-terrorism, security and stability across the continent.

The two leaders met Cairo’s Ittihadiya Presidential Palace on Saturday.

In a joint presser with his Mozambican counterpart, Sisi voiced condolences to the Mozambican government and people over the recent hurricanes that lashed the country and stressed Egypt’s full support for reconstruction of damaged areas.

Spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency Bassam Rady said that Sisi also expressed Cairo’s appreciation for the strong historic relations shared with Mozambique, pointing out aspirations to further strengthen them.

He also relayed a determination to activate bilateral cooperation frameworks in all fields and for Egypt to continue providing various support towards Mozambique.

Nyusi, for his part, expressed happiness with the visit, his first to Egypt, and his attendance of the opening of the African Cup of Nations hosted by the North African country.

He praised Friday’s opening ceremony and Egypt’s capabilities, which are the best representation of the African continent.

Rady added that it was agreed during the talks to develop economic relations and support economic development efforts in Mozambique, especially in the fields of infrastructure development through the expertise of Egyptian companies in this field, as well as the development of cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, fish farming, health, communications and transportation.

Nyusi invited Sisi to visit Mozambique and the two presidents held a joint press conference witnessing the signing of a number of memorandums of understanding in the areas of political consultation, agricultural cooperation and food security.
