
The Egyptian armed forces announced on Wednesday that 20 “takfiris” were killed in recent days as part of the Sinai Operation 2018 to eliminate terrorists in the country.
Eighteen terrorist hideouts were also destroyed, added the military command in its 27th statement on ongoing operation.
The air forces carried out a precision strike against a terrorist cell in a desert region in western Egypt, it continued. Seven “very dangerous takfiris” were killed in the operation. A number of weapons, equipment, ammunition and explosive belts were seized at the scene.
Thirteen “takfiris” were killed in a shootout with security forces as they were carrying out sweeps and raids in central and northern Sinai, continued the statement. Eighteen other suspects and outlaws were arrested.
Eighteen terrorist hideouts were destroyed in northern and central Sinai. Ten unlicensed vehicles and six motorcycles were also seized.
The statement revealed that the security forces discovered and dismantled 41 explosives that were planted by the terrorists to target the security forces in their areas of operation.
In addition, the military destroyed 38 vehicles that were used in smuggling operations, while border guards seized a drone and two satellite phones. They also detained 2,000 illegal immigrants.
