Egypt and Libya launched a joint electronic system to facilitate the movement of laborers between the two countries.
Egyptian Manpower Minister Mohamed Saafan said all Egyptian workers will travel to Libya only through this protocol.
“The ministry has been preparing this system in cooperation with the Libyan side since they signed the memorandum of understanding in April,” he added during a meeting with Libyan Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation Ali al-Abdel al-Rida in Cairo on Monday.
Both sides are keen to develop an integrated system to regulate the return of Egyptian workers to Libya, Saafan noted.
Both ministers stressed that the integrated system provides all the data required to facilitate the entry of Egyptian workers needed in the Libyan labor market.
According to a cabinet statement on Monday, the protocol will prevent the illegal exploitation of Egyptian labor recruitment, human trafficking and illicit entry into Libya.
The ministers said they are supervising the Egyptian-Libyan technical committee to follow up on the operation of the system and overcome any obstacles that users might face in the registration process.
Saafan said that after launching the system and proving its success, it will be applied to other countries seeking to bring in Egyptian workers.
Rida, for his part, said this project was proposed more than 15 years ago, as both countries wanted to organize the labor market and ultimately bolster bilateral ties.
“The Egyptian workers will participate in the reconstruction of Libya, so that life can return to normal there,” he stressed.
