Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry warned against the consequences of Israel's decision to annex Palestinian lands.

The two officials stressed in a phone call their rejection of the Israeli plan and highlighted its repercussions on security and stability in the region.

Safadi and Shoukry said annexing Palestinian lands would undermine the two-state solution and the foundations of the peace process, according to a statement issued by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Meanwhile, a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that the two ministers affirmed their keenness on preserving peace as a regional and international necessity, which can only be achieved through negotiations and by avoiding unilateral measures, stressing the importance of the two-state solution.

The two ministers further reviewed developments in the region and efforts made to find political solutions to current crises.

Shoukry also briefed Safadi on the progress made over efforts to reach an agreement on the Renaissance Dam.

For his part, Safadi said it was crucial to avoid taking unilateral measures to fill the dam and stressed the need to intensify efforts to reach an agreement that preserves the rights of the brothers in Egypt over the Nile waters as well as the rights of all other parties in accordance with international law.
