ISIS terrorist group has claimed an attack this week in Egypt’s restive Sinai Peninsula which left an office dead and wounded three others.

The group released a statement late on Wednesday through a militant-linked website saying the group had targeted an armored vehicle carrying Egyptian forces with a roadside bombing the previous day in the town of Sheikh Zuweid.

Egyptian officials had said a captain was killed and four members of the security forces were wounded in the roadside bombing, the Associated Press reported.

Egypt has been battling an extremist insurgency in Sinai, led by the regional ISIS affiliate, that intensified following the ousting of former president Mohammed Morsi in 2013, who belongs to the “banned” Muslim Brotherhood organization.

The militants have carried out scores of attacks, mainly targeting security forces and minority Christians.
