
Egypt revealed it has administered more than 66 million coronavirus vaccines amid a spike in infections.
The Ministry of Health and Population reported 2,191 new coronavirus cases, taking the total to 446,308. It confirmed 57 new deaths, raising the toll to 23,110.
Authorities have so far administered 1.8 million vaccine to children aged 15-18, and 284,200 to children aged 12-15, stated Minister of Higher Education Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar during a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
He said 66.6 million vaccine doses have been administered so far, adding that 672,300 booster shots have also been given.
A total of 67 million vaccines were exported between November 2021 and February 2022, he added.
Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar noted a hike in recoveries and infections, but not a rise in hospitalizations.
In televised statements, the spokesman stressed that the Egyptian leadership was keen on providing vaccines to ensure the safety of citizens.
