Egyptian officials and citizens celebrated on Wednesday Egypt’s success in returning 32 fishermen, who had been detained in Yemen for two months, on a chartered flight to Cairo.

Egypt also managed to return 300 citizens from the Chinese city of Wuhan, which is the epicenter of the coronavirus.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi hailed the process, saying that the strong efforts exerted by the government “saved lives and resulted in their safe return home.”

During Wednesday's cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly praised the professionalism of the authorities in returning the Egyptian nationals.

The returnees were welcomed in their hometowns in Damietta Governorate, north of Egypt, by Governor Dr. Manal Awad and local officials as well as the families of the fishermen.

In another context, the Egyptian army has advanced and ranked ninth globally and first in the Arab world in the annual index of Global Firepower.

Last month, Egypt inaugurated the Berenice Military Base on the Red Sea.

According to the Egyptian president, the air and naval base was established in a record-time.
