The Egyptian parliament described the discussions and talks between Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry with a number of leaders and members of the US Congress as "important", asserting that the minister succeeded in revealing the lies and conspiracies of terrorist elements plotting against Egypt.

The FM held intensive meetings in Washington with the chairman of Foreign Relations Committee, Republican Sen. James Risch, Senate Democratic Minority Leader Sen. Bob Menendez, and chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee Republican Senator Ron Johnson.

At the US House of Representatives, Shoukry met with minority leader in the Foreign Operations and Related Programs Subcommittee Hal Rogers, and minority leader in the Military Services Commission Mac Thornberry.

Shoukry indicated his keenness to communicate with the members of Congress of both chambers in order to present the various positive developments in Egypt on the political, economic and social arena, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry.

Parliament’s spokesman Salah Hasaballah asserted the importance of the Egyptian and US viewpoints on strategic relations between the two countries, saying the situation requires Washington to support Cairo in meeting the security, political, economic and social challenges, which serve the strategic interests of both states.

Hasaballah lauded the Foreign Minister’s statement in which he indicated that Cairo will witness many positive developments on all levels, including the economic situation.

The recent developments in the energy sector qualify Egypt to become a regional center for gas trade in the Middle East.

Shoukry also discussed with US officials the various crises facing the Middle East and Egypt's pivotal role in promoting stability in the region and assisting in several countries in reaching political solutions to their crises.
