Egyptian Defense Minister and armed forces commander Mohammed Zaki reviewed on Tuesday the Sinai 2018 operation at its command center.
He was briefed on the operations and execution of the military offensive that is aimed at ridding the Sinai region and other parts of the country of extremists and terrorists.
He discussed with central and northern Sinai field officers the preparations for the upcoming phases of the offensive.
The officers also briefed Zaki on the progress achieved so far in various raids and sweeps across northern Sinai.
They also detailed plans to continue the destruction of terrorist infrastructure, in cooperation with the civil police, in order to restore security in the peninsula.
The government launched military operations in February against ISIS terrorists who have waged years of attacks on security forces and civilians, killing hundreds.
The terrorist activity spiked in Egypt, in Sinai in particular, after the overthrow of Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammed Morsi in 2013.
