Health authorities in Egypt have announced a drop in occupancy in isolation beds as the country grapples with a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Health Ministry said Sunday night that 691 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total to 273,182 since the beginning of the outbreak in the country.

In a statement, the ministry revealed that 41 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the toll to 15,623.

As many as 765 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recoveries to 201,038.

Advisor to the Minister of Health for Emergency and Urgent Care Dr. Sherif Wadih said coronavirus cases have dropped remarkably during the third wave.

During a telephone interview, he added that occupancy in isolation beds has dropped to 29 percent and 56 percent in ICUs. The number of patients on ventilators had decreased to 34 percent.

Meanwhile, authorities are continuing their vaccination campaign.

The Health Ministry reassured that the inoculation does not cause a person to contract COVID-19, rather it boosts their immune system to fight the virus.

It reiterated that vaccines are safe and effective. The results of the shot are testament to their complete efficiency.
