Egypt and Pakistan to Develop Security, Military Cooperation

Sisi and Pakistani Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (Egyptian Presidency)

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has said Egypt was willing to develop bilateral cooperation with Pakistan, including in the fight against terrorism and extremist ideology.

Sisi met on Sunday with Chief of the Pakistani Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Nadeem Raza, in the presence of Egypt’s Minister of Defense Mohamed Zaki.

During the meeting, Raza praised the deep ties between Pakistan and Egypt, and said he is looking forward to enhancing fruitful cooperation between the two countries.

He stressed that Egypt’s stability is a pillar for the Middle East’s stability and that of the Islamic world as a whole.

Raza further asserted Egypt’s key role in achieving a ceasefire between Israel and militants in the Gaza Strip, and praised Cairo's initiative to start the reconstruction process in the Palestinian enclave.

The Egyptian presidency stated that Sisi and Reza discussed military cooperation between the two countries, including the exchange of visits of commanders, holding periodically a joint defense committee meeting, and cooperation in the field of defense and military industries, in addition to joint training programs like the “Sky Protectors-1” air force drill that was held in May.

The meeting also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and the Islamic world.

Both officials asserted the importance of continuing coordination to maintain regional and international peace, and combat terrorism.
