Ego Nwodim is clocking off from Saturday Night Live after seven seasons, and honestly? At this rate, who’s even going to be left on stage when the show comes back next month.
The comedian confirmed her exit on Instagram, writing: “The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL.”

She thanked Lorne Michaels, her castmates, and the crew for what she called an “immensely” rewarding run, before signing off with the very relatable request: “Now invite me to your weddings please!!!”
If we’re putting it out there, I too would like an invite to those weddings, please and thank you.

Nwodim, who joined the NBC sketch series in 2018, carved out a reputation for scene‑stealing characters like Lisa from Temecula, Dionne Warwick, Miss Eggy and Edith Puthie. Her “Lisa” sketches in particular often blew up online and went platinum in my household when one wild February episode even had a live audience accidentally swearing on air mid‑bit.
Her departure follows a wave of cast changes. In just the past month, Heidi Gardner, Emil Wakim, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker were all confirmed as not returning for Season 51.
That’s on top of creator Lorne Michaels teasing a “shake‑up” in an interview with Puck News, saying there’s “pressure to reinvent” the legendary late‑night brand.
Of course, it’s not like Nwodim will be short of work. She’s already bolstered her résumé with appearances in Rian Johnson’s Peacock series Poker Face, the comedy Mr. Throwback, and Netflix’s Little Brother, alongside John Cena, Michelle Monaghan and Eric André. In a 2023 interview, she admitted her goal was “to be in films, and to do more TV” — so this feels very much like the next logical step.
Meanwhile, SNL is shuffling new players onto the board. NBC has confirmed incoming Season 51 additions Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, TikToker Veronika Slowikowska and Please Don’t Destroy’s Ben Marshall. They join veterans like Bowen Yang, Chloe Fineman, Colin Jost and the eternal Kenan Thompson when the show returns live from New York on October 4.
