A fresh wave of bad weather is set to hit the UK, with the prospect of heavy snow in parts of England and Scotland.
As residents continue to struggle to recover from the impact of the recent flooding, the Met Office has put amber “be prepared” alerts in place for south-east Scotland and the Shetland Islands. Up to 6cm of snow is expected, with the possibility of more than 10cm on higher ground. Yellow “be aware” warnings were also issued for south and central Scotland, northern England, Yorkshire and Humber and the East Midlands.
However, there may be some respite for residents of Eglwyswrw in Pembrokeshire, where it has rained for 81 consecutive days – dry weather is forecast for the Welsh village. The record for continuous rainfall is 89 days on the Isle of Islay in Scotland in 1923.
