Eggheads changes channels after 18 years on BBC with Jeremy Vine still hosting

Quiz show Eggheads is making the move to Channel 5 with TV host Jeremy Vine after 18 years on the BBC.

Jeremy, who has hosted the show for more than 10 years, confirmed he will still front the quiz show when the news was announced on The Jeremy Vine Show on Friday.

The presenter unveiled the bombshell with a game of hangman which revealed the word: "Eggheads".

Joanna Lumley excitedly told fans via Zoom: "Eggheads is coming back."

Jeremy gushed over the big announcement before he let the actress tell the news to the world.

He said: "This is my big announcement. I don't have many of these I tell you.

"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight letters. [presenting the hangman letter's]

"We're going to let Joanna Lumley herself reveal."

Jeremy hailed it as "one of the greatest quizzes" as he chatted about the exciting return.

“The programme which I’ve presented for more than 10 years, Eggheads, one of the greatest quizzes in the history of British TV, is moving to Channel 5 later this year,” he said on the show.

Commissioning Editor Daniel Pearl said: "I'm delighted that Eggheads, one of the UK's most loved quiz shows, has found a brand new home on Channel 5.

"This is yet another step in the transformation of Channel 5 as it grows its audience rapidly."

Eggheads made waves on British TV when it was first broadcast in 2003.

In the quiz, a team of five take on the Eggheads in a bid to win prize money.

The presenter unveiled the bombshell with a game of hangman which revealed the word: "Eggheads" (12 Yard Productions)

A whopping £75,000 is the most ever won by a team challenging the Eggheads.

Oxford Brookes University students Beer Today, Gone Tomorrow went down in history when they scooped the prize in 2007.

* Eggheads will air on Channel 5 later this year.
