Egg-cellent snaps of family fun day at the East Kilbride Community Trust K-Woodlands Easter event

K-Woodlands was the place to be for an egg-stra special event last month as East Kilbride Community Trust strengthened its ties with the town.

That saw eggstatic families join in the Easter eggstravaganza, with a number of family-friendly activities in the thriving greenspace.

The fantastic weather of Good Friday paved the way for a day of tree planting, where members of the public joined staff and volunteers to help build a fantastic bio-diversity hedge around the new pond area.

The hedgerow will also helps to provide homes for wildlife and help fight climate change.

The event was helped by the Woodlands Trust, who donated 400 trees for the project.

EKCT also hosted a day of fun on Easter Monday at K-Woodlands, with over 400 adults and children taking part in arts and crafts, and an Easter treasure hunt.

Bringing the community together once more, it was made possible thanks to help from the Village Co-op, who supplied 500 eggs around the woodlands for everyone to find, and Mark Horner of the Village Steakhouse, who boiled the eggs to help.

It is all part of the bigger picture for the trust, who are working hard to transform K-Woodlands into a social urban greenspace for all to use.

Having kick-started their efforts in 2015, they have put on a massive variety of events in the woodlands including movie nights, nestbox building days and Hallowe’en Spooky Walks.

This year is still to see a host of additional events, include a PRIDE celebration, Makaton book-bug session, a dawn chorus, family barbecue days, and ‘food in the woods’ events.

The greenspace is also the venue for a health walk every Wednesday morning at 10.30am.

Trust chief executive, Monique McAdams, said: “We are enthusiastic about creating many more opportunities for the local community.

“We see great benefits in promoting physical activity and are focused on providing facilities to help the community come together for both physical and mental health benefits.

“We look forward to working in partnership with local groups needing support too.”
