EG Group buys Asda's forecourts business for £750m

EG Group has secured an agreement to buy Asda's forecourts business in a massive deal worth £750m.

The move by the petrol station giant came just months after its billionaire brother owners together with TDR Capital secured a £6.8bn deal to take control at the supermarket, as PA reports.

EG operates more than 6,000 forecourts globally, and said it expects the petrol station takeover to close in the second quarter, assuming the acquisition of Asda is cleared by the UK's competition regulator.

Mohsin and Zuber Issa, who are from Blackburn, built up their fortune from a single petrol filling station in Bury, Greater Manchester, that was bought for £150,000.

Their Euro Garages brand, founded in 2001, has since established itself as one of the UK’s fastest growing and most recognisable forecourt operators, with an expanding portfolio of around 4500 sites across the UK, mainland Europe, the USA and Australia.
