EFL suggests clubs separate players based on vaccination status to combat worsening Covid-19 outbreak

Football clubs are being advised to separate players based on their Covid status in a bid to fight off a surge in new cases.

The EFL has issued guidance suggesting players be grouped in different sections on team coaches according to their level of vaccination or if they have been infected with coronavirus.

Another measure includes advising goalkeepers to train separately to limit the risk of games being postponed because they have come in close contact with someone who tests positive.

The EFL is set to publish further guidelines for supporters today regarding Covid passports and a code of conduct, with the moves coming amid growing fears the football calendar will be severely disrupted by a winter surge and the Omicron variant.

Tottenham have seen their games against Rennes and Brighton postponed due to an outbreak of Covid infections.

The Premier League has reintroduced emergency measures to cope with rising concerns, which includes the wearing of masks indoors and socially distancing where possible indoors.
