EFL pundit weighs in on Antoine Semenyo red card which sunk Bristol City

Bristol City's hopes of making the Championship play-offs were struck a huge blow on Saturday as they went down 2-0 at home to promotion rivals Derby County.

The Rams took the lead in the 18th minute through Tom Lawrence but the key moment in the game came in the 59th minute when young Robins star Antoine Semenyo was shown a red card by referee Darren Bond

With just 10 men on the pitch and chasing the game Bristol City conceded a second goal with Jayden Bogle hitting the back of the net and are now left hoping Derby County will slip up, allowing Lee Johnson's side a shot at the final play-off place.

EFL Quest show pundit Dean Ashton said: "It's a huge moment in the game and we see so often now that these players do dive in - almost a 50-50 challenge... [Tom] Huddlestone certainly makes the most of that because he got up a minute later and he's absolutely fine and the players surround the referee.

"I think that, nowadays, if you dive in it makes it such a difficult decision for the referee."

The Robins travel to Millwall tomorrow night to play their game in hand.
