EFL provide update on Nottingham Forest's final day opponents Bolton Wanderers

Facing Nottingham Forest at the City Ground will NOT be Bolton Wanderers’ final game of the Championship season.

Sunday’s clash at the City Ground had been thrown into doubt last week due to the Trotters’ first-team players going on strike over unpaid wages. But as it stands, that match looks set to go ahead as scheduled.

However, already-relegated Bolton will now host Brentford some time after taking on the Reds, following the postponement of that fixture at the weekend.

Is this Nottingham Forest's best XI of the season?

There had been some speculation that match at the Macron Stadium, which was originally scheduled to take place last Saturday, could be held on Wednesday, just days before a meeting with Martin O’Neill’s side.

But a statement from the English Football League said: “The EFL has this morning confirmed that Bolton Wanderers’ suspended Sky Bet Championship fixture with Brentford will not be played this week.

“The EFL board will now determine on Thursday 2 May 2019 as to what arrangements are to be put in place in regards to the fixture and Bolton Wanderers will be instructed accordingly.

“As previously advised EFL regulations do provide for any League match to be played within four days of the end of the normal playing season (Sunday 5 May 2019).

“The EFL reserves its position in relation to the club not making the arrangements to play the game at the earliest opportunity and this matter will be brought to the attention of the Independent Disciplinary Commission the club has been referred to at the appropriate time.”

Bolton have been told they must fulfil their two remaining fixtures, but Forest may find themselves coming up against an XI made up from youth-team players if the strike continues.

The club are nevertheless, heading towards a sell-out for what will be the Reds' final outing of the campaign.
