EFL 'plan to stage one-off Championship play-off matches at neutral venues'

The EFL want to stage one-leg play-off semi-finals at neutral venues, according to reports.

The Sun claim Championship clubs are looking at possible venues to stage the two semis ahead of a Wembley final to determine the third promotion spot.

The EFL plans to play out the remainder of the season at home grounds, but there are fears the critical nature of these one-off showdowns would cause problems on the streets outside stadiums.

There are nine rounds of fixtures still to play in the Championship, with Leeds and West Brom seemingly on course for automatic promotion to the top flight.

It remains a scrap beneath the top two, with several clubs keeping a keen eye on plans for the third and final play-off spot.

Fulham, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Preston are currently in the Championship play-off places, but clubs all the way down to QPR in 13th are within six points of the top six.
