EFL outline venue plan for Nottingham Forest's remaining games

The English Football League have confirmed their intention for remaining Championship games to take place at clubs’ home grounds, if and when the season resumes.

That would mean Nottingham Forest’s final five home games being staged at the City Ground, while their last four away outings would be at their respective opponents' stadums.

With Sabri Lamouchi’s side having returned to non-contact training this week, the EFL have reiterated the Championship’s desire to finish the campaign.

Matches have been suspended since March due to the coronavirus pandemic, with nine rounds of fixtures remaining.

While the Premier League outlined their Project Restart on Thursday, setting out a return to action on June 17, a plan has not yet been put in place for the Championship.

Some top tier matches will potentially take place at neutral venues, and it is an idea which has been mooted for further down the ladder.

Games will be played behind closed doors, and there have been concerns fans could gather outside stadiums as a result.

But the governing body say Championship clashes will only be moved “if they are not permitted by the relevant local authority”.

An EFL spokesman said: “It remains our intention to play all remaining league matches at clubs’ home grounds as long as they comply with the relevant government guidelines.

“We will only seek to move matches if they are not permitted by the relevant local authority, following any representations from the local police force.”

League One and League Two clubs will have the chance to decide whether to curtail the season on June 8.
