EFL confirm zero positive coronavirus results in Championship from latest round of testing

The English Football League have confirmed there have been zero positive coronavirus tests in the Championship from the latest round of testing.

The EFL revealed 2798 players and club staff underwent testing from the 24 Championship clubs with zero individuals testing positive.

That figure is down from three positive tests from two separate clubs a week ago.

While there was more positive news surrounding testing in League One and League Two, which also returned zero positive tests.

A further 465 tests were carried out on players and staff from tiers three and four but no positive tests were returned.

England’s second tier resumed on 20 June after the league was suspended on 13 March due to the global pandemic.

The EFL have outlined their intent to regularly inform the public about testing to maintain the ”integrity and transparency” of the competition.

While EFL Chairman Rick Parry has played down talk of bankruptcy for clubs affected by Covid-19.

“Our aim is to get through this crisis, not just in terms of the next few months, but the next year, the next two years, with 72 clubs intact,” Parry told The Times.

“I’m not subscribing to that ‘maybe 50 clubs will go to the wall’ song by any stretch of the imagination. We absolutely must not get complacent. I don’t think for one minute the virus is permanently vanished, but compared with where we were even six weeks ago, there are definitely grounds for cautious optimism.”
