EFL confirm Wigan Athletic punishment that will affect Charlton's clash against Leeds United

The EFL have once again confirmed that Wigan Athletic’s 12-point deduction for entering administration will be applied to the Championship table immediately after tonight’s matches.

There is only one matchday left to go in the Championship, with matters at the bottom of the table still yet to be decided.

Several teams at the bottom of the division are nervously awaiting the final day of English football’s second-tier.

And there is an added layer this season owing to Wigan entering administration and the 12-point deduction they have hanging over them.

The Championship club entered administration a couple of weeks ago and are set to be handed a 12-point penalty by the EFL once the season has been completed.

However, Wigan’s administrators confirmed recently that they have launched an appeal against the club’s impending 12-point deduction.

But the EFL have moved to once again confirm that any tables published at tonight’s matches should apply the deduction, but reference that the deduction is “subject to appeal”.

“As previously advised, please note Wigan Athletic’s 12 point deduction for entering administration will be applied to the Championship League table immediately following tonight’s matches,” a statement from the EFL released on Wednesday morning read.

“Any tables published should apply the deduction, but reference that it is “subject to appeal”.”
