EFL confirm two positive coronavirus tests and what it means for Nottingham Forest

The English Football League have confirmed that there were two positive results in the latest round of Covid-19 testing.

Nine people from six Championship clubs tested positive during the last round, with Sheffield Wednesday, Preston North End and Huddersfield Town each confirming one positive test.

Nottingham Forest are hoping to get their play-off push back on track after a near-three month break because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sabri Lamouchi 's side and backroom staff are being routinely tested ahead of the proposed restart on June 20 and despite two more positive tests the numbers are relatively low.

More than 4,000 tests on players and staff have been carried out in the Championship since May 21, with 24 individuals testing positive.

A statement from the EFL on Sunday said: "Following the latest round of Covid-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 1179 players and club staff from the 24 Championship clubs were tested over the course of Wednesday June 3, Thursday June 4, Friday June 5 and Saturday June 6, with two individuals, testing positive from two clubs.

"Those players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities.

"Following the first round of Covid-19 testing in League One, the EFL can confirm that 135 players and Club staff were tested from four League One Clubs over the course of Wednesday June 3, Thursday June 4, Friday June 5 and Saturday June 6 with zero individuals testing positive.

"Following the latest round of Covid-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 132 players and Club staff were tested from four League Two clubs over the course of Wednesday June 3, Thursday June 4, Friday June 5 and Saturday June 6 with one individual testing positive.

"Those players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities.

"The EFL will continue to make regular and relevant announcements as appropriate in respect of the testing programme to support competition integrity and transparency.

"No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League."

The lowering number of positive Covid-19 tests in the Championship will please the EFL ahead of a busy week of meetings.

With a June 20 restart date confirmed, EFL clubs will meet on Tuesday to vote on five proposed frameworks, should any of the three tiers be curtailed.

Equally, Sky Sports are expected to confirm their TV selections early next week, with 30 matches to be shown live, in addition to the play-offs.
