EFL confirm two Championship personnel from same club test positive for coronavirus

Two individuals from one Championship club have tested positive for coronavirus, the EFL confirmed on Sunday.

Those were the only two positive cases recorded following testing on a total of 1,014 players and staff from across the 24 second-tier clubs over the last 72 hours ahead of a return to small group training on Monday.

The persons in question will not be named by the EFL and will now enter a seven-day period of self-isolation in conjunction with league guidelines.

"Only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities," the EFL reiterated in their official statement.

"The EFL will continue to make regular and relevant announcements as appropriate in respect of the testing programme to support competition integrity and transparency."

Also on Sunday, Bournemouth revealed that one player at the club had tested positive for Covid-19 after a second round of testing conducted in the Premier League, where restricted group training began earlier this week.

There were two positive tests returned in total after 996 players and staff from top-flight clubs underwent further testing across 19-22 May, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the Premier League over the last week to eight.

As well as an unnamed player from Bournemouth, that number is also known to include Burnley assistant manager Ian Woan and Watford defender Adrian Mariappa plus two unidentified members of Hornets staff.
