EFL confirm suspended Bolton vs Brentford fixture will NOT take place this week

The EFL have confirmed the suspended Bolton vs Brentford fixture will not take place this week.

It had been hoped the match would be staged on Wednesday evening after Trotters players striked over unpaid wages.

But that will now not be the case.

The EFL ordered Bolton to make arrangements to play the match at the earliest possible opportunity, insisting it must take place.

EFL regulations state any postponed fixture must take place within four days of the end of the scheduled campaign, which is on Sunday.

An EFL statement read: "The EFL has this morning confirmed that Bolton Wanderers’ suspended Sky Bet Championship fixture with Brentford will not be played this week.

"The EFL Board will now determine on Thursday 2 May 2019 as to what arrangements are to be put in place in regards to the fixture and Bolton Wanderers will be instructed accordingly.

"As previously advised EFL Regulations do provide for any League match to be played within four days of the end of the normal playing season (Sunday 5 May 2019).

"The EFL reserves its position in relation to the Club not making the arrangements to play the game at the earliest opportunity and this matter will be brought to the attention of the Independent Disciplinary Commission the Club has been referred to at the appropriate time."

Bolton are due to travel to Nottingham Forest for what should have been there final game of the season on Sunday, but that match is now also in serious doubt.

Laurence Bassini is fronting a takeover bid to acquire the club from Ken Anderson, but the deal has hit a number of stumbling blocks.

Blackpool's final-day match against Huddersfield four years ago was abandoned after 48 minutes after Tangerines fans invaded the pitch.

The match was not replayed.
