EFL confirm Bolton will send first team to Nottingham Forest after emergency wages loan

Crisis club Bolton Wanderers will send their first team to Nottingham Forest on Sunday after the PFA provided an emergency loan to cover their overdue salaries.

In a statement from the EFL on Wednesday evening, it confirmed the Trotters had given assurances that its first team, who had gone on strike over unpaid wages last week, would be made available.

Wanderers’ postponed game against Brentford which should have taken place last Saturday, is also set to go ahead next week after the PFA stepped in to help diffuse the situation, say the Bolton News.

“Bolton Wanderers has confirmed to the EFL that its first team squad will be available for the Club’s away fixture against Nottingham Forest at the weekend,” it said in a statement.

“The EFL Board will determine on Thursday 2 May as to what arrangements are to be put in place in regards to last week’s suspended fixture with Brentford and details will be confirmed in due course.”

Wanderers’ dressing room had been in dispute with current owner Ken Anderson having failed to receive their salaries for March and April.

The club are still in talks with former Watford owner Laurence Bassini, who requested on Tuesday night, a further 48 hours to complete his protracted takeover of the Lancashire club.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the Trotters' dressing room noted their thanks to the PFA for their help, though it remains unclear whether or not the whole squad will travel to Nottingham on Sunday.

“The players would like to state their appreciation for the ongoing support of the PFA throughout this difficult period.

“We are especially grateful for the significant financial assistance that was offered and received today.”
