EFL clubs reach agreement to change the date of the closure of the Summer Transfer Window

EFL clubs have reached an agreement in principle to amend the deadline of the Summer Transfer Window, the EFL has confirmed.

Last year, the Summer Transfer Window closed for business on Thursday, August 8, following the same deadline that was set by clubs in the Premier League.

But following the recent decision by Premier League clubs to revert back to the traditional date of August 31 for the Summer Transfer Window to draw to a close, EFL clubs, too, have also voted for that date to mark the end of the summer window.

The deadline for the 2020 Summer Transfer Window, however, will be September 1, with a 5pm deadline, as August 31 is a public Bank Holiday.

A process for formally adopting the change into EFL Regulations will now take place in due course, bringing Championship clubs in line with the current position for League One and League Two.
