EFL chief ready to hand Leeds United massive boost in promotion quest as talks held

Leeds United's Premier League dream could about to be handed a big promotion boost.

The English Football League (EFL) are holding talks today via a conference call on how to move forward with the season currently suspended because of coronavirus.

Covid-19 has forced the EFL to shut the League down until April 3 at the earliest, with Leeds' games against Cardiff, Fulham, Luton and Blackburn all postponed.

However, it is looking unlikely that the League will restart at the beginning of next month and even more so given that UEFA gave the green light to extend domestic club competitions when they postponed this summer's European Championships to next year.

Now website Football Insider are saying that EFL chairman Rick Parry is fully supportive of completing the current campaign amid talk from some quarters that the 2019-20 season could be declared null and void.

That would erase any chance for Leeds, who top the Championship, to end their long exile from the Premier League.

Leeds are top of the pile with nine games of the regular season remaining.

Before the coronavirus outbreak enforced the suspension of games, Marcelo Bielsa's side were on a superb run of five consecutive wins.

And they achieved that string of wins with five clean sheets to boot.

But if Parry's stance is agreed upon by the clubs, then it may mean that Leeds may just have to wait a little longer to end their top flight drought.
