EFL chief issues positive update on Bolton Wanderers as club faces expulsion

EFL executive chair Debbie Jevans has provided a positive update for Bolton Wanderers supporters, who are eagerly awaiting news of a takeover.

The Trotters missed yesterday's 5pm deadline issued by the EFL and were issued with a 14-day notice to resolve the ongoing issues, or face expulsion from the Football League - the same fate that fell upon Bury on Tuesday.

Significant concerns engulf Bolton, with the Football League at risk of losing two founding members over the course of just a few weeks, but there is still enough time to find a resolution.

On top of that, Jevans has provided an encouraging update to supporters on Wednesday as she confirmed that discussions regarding a takeover were still ongoing.

“We finished working with Bolton and the administrator and 3am this morning. Everybody wants that deal to close," she told TalkSport .

“I’m saying it’s very close and I know people will be shouting at the radio when I say that as they’ve heard it before, but what we couldn’t have again was a situation where you’ve got young players out there playing, losing 5-0 every week – that is not a sustainable way to run a football league.

“So we’ve issued that notice and lifted the suspension. But I will say to everyone, that at 3am this morning conversations were still ongoing.”
