EFL blasted over plan to finish Nottingham Forest's season

The English Football League has been criticised over its plan to finish the current season.

Nottingham Forest and their EFL counterparts were sent a letter this week which outlines proposals on how to complete the 2019-20 campaign this summer.

The EFL believes it can finish the seasons in Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two in 56 days once it is safe to resume after the coronavirus pandemic halted the campaign last month.

But League Managers Association chief executive Richard Bevan has hit out at the EFL for failing to talk to his members.

"You're going to have to get the support of the coaches and managers. You do not do that by not talking to them," Bevan told the BBC.

"You do not get the end product or working together if you just send a letter out without actually taking their advice or thoughts.

"You're going to have to get the goodwill of the players because you're going to have at least three weeks of training to get back on the pitch at least.

"The most important thing guiding every principle is health, and getting back on the pitch without ensuring fully fit players is a very big call to make.

"I would like to see more debate."

Bevan also believes the season in England should only resume once all players have been tested for coronavirus.

He told BBC Sport "tests must be made available first" for National Health Service workers and patients, adding: "Once that's happened, by all means let's access it in sport."

Forest are currently fifth in the Championship table with nine matches left to play.

Sabri Lamouchi's men have a five-point cushion inside the play-off zone and are 10 points adrift of an automatic promotion spot.
