BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said that efforts are being made to upgrade sports facilities in Madhya Pradesh. Chief minister Chouhan was inaugurating the 32nd National Canoe Sprint, 15th Para Canoe and 1st Standup Paddling National Competition 2021-22 at Lower Lake here on Thursday. The championship is being organized in the memory of former top cop Late Sanjeev Kumar Singh.
Around 750 players from 27 states are participating in the competition, which will continue till March 13. There will be competitions for a total of 285 medals through which there will be a process of selection of the national team, which is to participate in the Beijing Asian Games. Kayaking Canoeing is an Olympic sport and Bhopal has an important place in this sport in the country. Indian kayaking and canoeing association (IKCA) showed a video of a new slalom venue being developed in Rehti, Sehore. CM Chouhan appreciated IKCA for developing a new venue for slalom in the state. IKCA’s secretary-general, Prashant Kushwaha said, “We had organized a national event last year at this venue. We will make it a big centre in the near future,” said Kushwaha.
DGP (Home Guard) Jain also addressed, on the occasion. MP sports minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia, Director General of Police Sudhir Kumar Saxena, Director General of Police (Home Guard) Pawan Jain, former Director General of Police Vivek Johri, Jyoti Singh, along with players of national and international competitions were present.
