Eerily beautiful aerial photos show fog smothering Belfast

Eerily beautiful aerial photos show fog smothering Belfast last night.

One of images, shared by PSNI Air Support on Twitter, shows a mighty sight - the Samson and Goliath shipbuilding gantry cranes at Queen's Island pictured in the fog.

The cranes, named after Biblical figures, dominate the Belfast skyline and are landmark structures.

Another shows the fog coming in off the Lough and creeping across the city.

The Northern Ireland Police Service's Air Support Wing reported on Twitter at just after 1am this morning: "We were out over Belfast earlier this evening and got these photos of the fog coming in off the Lough. Not something you see everyday!"
