Eerie video captures gunshots being fired just moments before man is killed by van in Tallaght, Dublin

Here is the eerie moment captured on film where gunshots were fired in a south Dublin area just moments before a man was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident.

Gardai were sent to a housing estate in Tymon Road, Tallaght in the early hours of Monday morning after receiving reports of a shooting incident but upon arrival, found the victim in his 50s who had been mowed down by a van.

The driver fled the scene with the vehicle found a short distance away in Tymonville Gardens a short time later, while a man in his early 30s was arrested nearby also.

But just minutes before that, screams of terror filled the air as loud gunshot bangs were heard from the weapon as it fired bullets one after another.

In the video obtained by Dublin Live, the sound of the argument is almost as deafening as the gunshots as high-pitched screeches are let out from women and roars projected out by men.

It's after this inaudible argument when the first bullet is fired followed by a person at the scene who begins to wail.

Seconds later, another shot is released quickly followed by the third and final one caught on camera - each loud bang met by an equally loud cry from the people close by.

In a matter of minutes, the man would be left seriously injured before dying in hospital, not from the gunshots that occurred but after being hit by the van which motored on while the man lay lifeless on the ground.

The victim was rushed to Tallaght Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after and a post-mortem is currently underway into his death.

Tallaght Gardai are eager to speak to people who may know something about a dark coloured hatchback car that was seen leaving the area around midnight last night and are also urging for any witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí at Tallaght are appealing for witnesses following a number of incidents which resulted in the death of a man at a housing estate in Tymon Road North, Tallaght, Dublin 24, in the early hours of Monday, 10th August, 2020."

"Shortly before midnight on Sunday, 9th August, 2020, Gardaí received reports of shots being fired at a residence in the area. No injuries were reported during this incident.

"Following a further incident outside this residence, a man in his 50s was struck by a van which failed to remain at the scene.

"The offending vehicle was later located by Gardaí at Tymonville Gardens. A man in his early 30s was arrested nearby. He is currently being detained at Tallaght Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984."

He added: "The injured man was taken to Tallaght Hospital with serious injuries where he was later pronounced dead. A post-mortem is currently underway.

"Gardaí at Tallaght are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

"Gardai are particularly interested in a dark coloured hatchback car that was seen leaving the area around this time.

"Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the Tymon Road North area late last night or in the early hours of this morning to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Tallaght Garda Station on 01 6666 000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
