Eerie pictures show inside empty National Ice Centre

With its rink now melted Nottingham's National Ice Centre cuts a mere shadow of its former self.

The world-class venue in Bolero Square has stood empty since the middle of March when strict lockdown measures were first brought in to force.

Since then the ice has melted and the familiar whizz of budding Torvill and Dean skating around the rink has disappeared.

Staff at the centre are feeling the venue's eerie emptiness, too, taking to Twitter to share pictures inside the rink, calling the sight "so sad".

The post read: "More details will follow over the next couple of weeks. We can’t wait to welcome you back soon! For now, here’s what the rink has looked like over the past few months... it’s so sad with no ice isn’t it."

There are hopes the venue will be able to reopen at the start of September and bosses will be keeping a close eye on the latest Government advice regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

The centre tweeted: "Like many others, we’re working hard behind the scenes to make our environment as safe as possible and we’re hoping to reopen the rink in early September."
