Eerie pictures show Edinburgh Waverley resembling a ghost town during rush hour

Shocked commuters have shared eerie images of Edinburgh Waverley looking like a ghost town and empty Scotrail trains - despite it being rush hour.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon shut down hospitality across the central belt for two weeks and urged Scots to work from home if they can to tackle rising coronavirus cases.

Following the shut down, rail operator Scotrail urged people in the central belt to only travel if necessary, saying: "only travel by rail to, from, or within the central belt when it's necessary to do."

People in the capital appear to be listening to the latest advice because pictures show Edinburgh Waverley looking unrecognisable to how it usually would in rush hour.

Local resident David Muir shared an image of Edinburgh Waverley and the platforms looking deserted at around 8.49pm.

Another local shared an image of the empty station, penning:"Rush hour at Edinburgh Waverley this morning... Eerily quiet if you ask me."

A worker heading from Glasgow to Edinburgh in rush hour was also shocked to see the usually packed service with an entire empty carriage.

They said online:" Heading in to Edinburgh for first face to face client meeting since March.

"Prayed the rush hour train would be quiet - didn’t expect it to be *this* quiet."
