Eerie mist cloaks Liverpool as forecasters warn of wintry weather

Liverpool has been shrouded in fog for the past couple of days and some amazing photos have been taken during the weather phenomenon.

David Spencer took a very eerie snap from the top of the APlant/Hoist It construction hoist at the Lexington project on the docks on William Jessop way on Thursday.

In the photo the Liver Building can be seen rising from the mist, with the Museum of Liverpool and the Albert Dock also visible in the distance.

The cruise terminal and other low-level buildings are completely covered by the fog however, with the Mersey and Wirral almost completely invisible.

Over the weekend it led to the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning, as the fog thickened, putting flights at risk.

The fog has remained in the city for the past couple of days, creating an eerie atmosphere across Liverpool.

Today the weather is expected to remain dull and gloomy, with the forecast for tonight saying: "A few clearer spells early this evening, but cloud and mist will become more widespread with occasional spots of drizzle later on.

"The odd shower is possible. Light winds and another mild night."

Friday's forecast said: "Tomorrow will be mainly cloudy and rather misty at first. Occasional bright spells will develop as the day unfolds. Most places will stay dry, but patchy drizzle is possible. Winds will remain light.

"Saturday will be partly cloudy with bright spells, and the odd shower.

"Sunday will begin on a wet and windy note. A bright and breezy afternoon will follow, with the odd shower.

"On Sunday night, showers will cross from the southwest, these turning wintry on hills. Dry, bright and breezy at first on Monday, but turning wet and windy from the southwest later, with some hill snow."
