Eerie images show inside abandoned UK theme park which has turned into 'ghost town'

With Edinburgh and the Lothians being full of abandoned factories, hospitals and hotels, one thing it is not home to is an abandoned theme park which has been reclaimed by nature.

Well, that's exactly what has happened to Pleasure Island in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. Recent eerie pictures have captured an entire theme park which was vacated six years ago.

As Grimsby Live reports, the site has become a ghost town and a hot spot for urban explorers and those who have an eye for anything spooky and abandoned - which the park certainly ticks all those boxes.

While Pleasure Island will rekindle many childhood memories for locals, the state in which it has become will no doubt be a sorry site for many. The once fun-filled park with rides, a food court and a railway line, has now started to blend in with its surroundings.

The attraction was formerly a Flamingo Land site but is now to be torn down and demolished under new plans.

A Facebook group dedicated to exploring abandoned buildings and parks such as Pleasure Island have flagged it due to its derelict rides, empty attractions and boarded up structures.

However, there is an element of grave danger involved in anyone willing to take the risk. Planning permission was put in place in December 2022 with a proposal to turn the area into 250 eco-homes in a style similar to that of the popular destination Center Parcs.

According to Grimsby Live, efforts had been made to start clearing the site but that some of it remains intact. Recent footage sparked a sad reaction from the community at the state of the park with one writing: "Very sad to see the remains of the park rotting away for over six years now. It will probably be demolished very soon."

Another previously added: "This one makes me feel a little sad, being local to it I spent many a fun day with my mates there in the summer holidays and then with my own children.

"Such a shame it was left to go the way it did when it had so much potential to get even better."
