Eerie footage as gardai search for bomb at Templeogue school following phone call as student's parent tells of horror

This footage shows an eerily quiet school campus as gardai and "sniffer dogs" were at the scene of a bomb threat this afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to St Mac Dara's Community College in Templeogue following phone calls claiming a suspect device was on the grounds of the secondary school.

The entire school was evacuated from the building and students were sent home.

One parent told Dublin Live: "The entire school, staff and students, were evacuated from the building about an hour ago due to a bomb threat.

"There were gardai and sniffer dogs going through the school in detail and then there was Fire Brigades arriving as the kids were leaving and being collected.

Officers eventually left the scene after an extensive search produced no results.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardai are investigating reports of a possible suspect device at a school in the Templeogue area.

"Gardai have carried out extensive searches of the premises and a search operation remains ongoing currently. At this time no device or similar has been located.

"Enquiries are continuing."

In a statement, the school said: "The health, safety and wellbeing of our entire school community is always our number one priority.

"We asked pupils to depart the school earlier today after a phone call was received by the emergency services alleging that a suspect device had been placed at the school.

"We worked with the gardaí who attended the school and carried out a comprehensive search, including a trained sniffer dog, and they have given the all-clear and our school can now reopen tomorrow.

"It was not necessary for any other services to attend school.

"Contrary to any speculation, the bomb squad did not attend the school.

"We are most grateful to all students and staff for the manner in which they observed our safety procedures and we look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow as normal.

"The gardai are investigating this unfortunate occurrence and we have no other comment to make."
