Eerie drone footage shows ruins of theme park Camelot from the air

Eerie drone footage has revealed the ruins of abandoned Camelot theme park from the air, as the scale of the forgotten attraction is shown.

Amazing footage shows the 140 acre-long site in full view completely empty.

Dated and aged items in the King Arthur-inspired theme park can be seen from a height, as graffiti covered restaurants and rusted rollercoasters are pictured.

The theme park was a popular attraction for Liverpool families, as thousands would travel up the M58 to visit it every year.

It has since remained empty since 2012, though, when the gates were closed for the final time.

The once-bustling theme park now lies in tatters with many parts of the site having fallen into ruins. Drone footage, shared with the ECHO by Shootin' It Photography, shows the theme park completely empty.

Owners Knights Leisure blamed low visitor numbers on bad weather and events such as The 2012 Olympics and The Queen’s Jubilee - with over 150 staff losing their jobs.

Whilst certain rollercoasters were sold to theme parks around Europe, seven years later, many of the rides remain abandoned.

The theme park has recently been valued by experts to be worth over £793m.

Camelot was found to have a potential value of £793,016,000 should the 140 acres be sold to build 6,294 apartments.

Several planning applications for housing estates have been submitted and subsequently rejected by Chorley Council, the most recent in March 2018.
