Eerie drone footage shows deserted city centre after UK lockdown

This eerie drone footage has captured on camera the deserted streets of Liverpool City Centre after the UK was put into lockdown last night.

Ben Simpson, a photographer and videographer from Smithdown, flew his drone across parts of the city centre on Monday and again this morning, to document the empty streets.

From the waterfront to Upper Parliament Street, Ben said it was "surreal" to see Liverpool so empty.

The 41-year-oldsaid there was a noticeable difference in the number of people walking around the city today, with the vast majority of them choosing to stay at home.

This comes after the Prime Minister told people on Monday that they would now have to stay in their homes except from very limited purposes, as the government seriously stepped up its battle against coronavirus.

The tighter measures also saw non-essential shops and community spaces closed, while people were told to stop having gatherings of more than two people in public.

Ben told the ECHO: "It's so unusual to see an empty Liverpool, I had to go out and grab some shots of it.

"The streets are deserted.

"It's a different city from yesterday when there was still people going into some of the shops and buying a takeaway coffee, whereas today people are definitely listening to the message and staying at home."
