Eels stun Storm to stop record NRL streak

Parramatta have catapulted back into top-four contention after they crashed Melbourne's party and ended their shot at a record streak with a 22-10 win in Brisbane.

On the night most tipped Melbourne to become the first in history to register 20 straight wins, it turned into a nightmare with their first loss in Queensland since 2017.

Star winger Josh Addo-Carr finished the night on the sideline with a hamstring injury while Harry Grant (dangerous contact), Brandon Smith (high tackle) and Jesse Bromwich (crusher) all found themselves on report.

Storm coach Craig Bellamy claimed after "there seemed to be a lot of laying down from everyone", but Melbourne will still face a nervous wait for the charge sheet.

It left the Storm stuck on 19 straight wins, equal with the Eastern Suburbs side of 1975 for the greatest streak of all time.

"We had plenty to play for tonight, Felise (Kaufusi)'s 150th," Bellamy said.

"But we didn't give a yelp tonight, really.

"I can't think of the last time I have been that disappointed in a milestone game for one of our players. I am a bit embarrassed that was in Felise's 150th."

But it wasn't all good news for the Eels, with Clint Gutherson limping off the field late with a leg injury and Nathan Brown on report for a high shot.

Parramatta were hopeful Gutherson's injury was only a cork, with the fullback set to be rested from the final round regardless.

Still, the win momentarily moved them into fourth and in with a shot at a second chance in the finals if they beat Penrith next week and Manly drop one of their last two games.

Gutherson and Mitch Moses in particular stood up as the Eels played with better intent, after the duo's poor form coincided with the team's slump and prompted questions over their leadership.

Moses kicked superbly with one exception in the first half, and set up the Eels' first for Blake Ferguson with a perfect lofted cut-out ball.

The half later finished the night at fullback, filling in for Gutherson when he went off the field.

"He (Moses) was very good and it's good for his confidence," Arthur said.

"People target him over the big games. He produced in one of the big games for us.

"I was super proud of him."

After Moses set up the opener, it was then time for Gutherson to make his mark after Melbourne went 10-6 up through tries to Reimis Smith and Isaac Lumelume.

Gutherson first put Haze Dunster over on the left wing before the break, before providing Ferguson with his second when he got outside the defence and created space for his winger.

Isaiah Papali'i was brilliant with 170 metres, as was Junior Paulo while Nathan Brown was significantly improved in what was easily Parramatta's best night in months.

The win also opens up the race for the minor premiership, after the Storm appeared to have it wrapped up.

Penrith will draw level with Melbourne on 42 points if they beat Wests Tigers on Sunday, and while the Storm have a superior for-and-against both teams could rest players next week.
