Eels halves sound NRL finals warning

Parramatta five-eighth Dylan Brown has welcomed the early return of his halves partner Mitch Moses after finger surgery, with the pair running riot in the 42-6 NRL win over Canterbury on Saturday.

They both had two line-breaks and two try assists each at CommBank Stadium, with Moses setting up both of Brown's tries with deft little kicks in behind the defensive line.

"Obviously Mitch is a very confident player and one of the best halves in the game," Brown said.

"So when he's back everyone else is in sync and we play very well."

The Eels most certainly did, turning a humiliating 26-0 loss to South Sydney a week ago into a 36-point thrashing.

It was largely off the back of some sparkling creativity from Parramatta's No.6 and 7.

Brown's first four-pointer came via a soccer-style kick and pick up in the 61st minute to push the lead out to 32-6.

"They are pretty arsy (kicks) and to be honest I was lucky," Brown said.

"If I'd kicked that and it goes dead, it would be the other way around. You get lucky sometimes and tonight they pulled off for me.

"We found space in places that we needed to ... It's good we can get all those points but to get only the one try against us, that was really pleasing."

Brown's 20-metre cut-out pass to his left-side winger Maika Sivo was dripping in class as it landed right on the Fijian's chest coming at full pace.

The Kiwi international made 12 runs for 100 metres had many Bulldogs forwards targeting him, making 20 tackles with no misses.

It's that kind of performance that will secure the 29-year-old another Kiwis jersey for the upcoming World Cup.

However, next up is Brisbane on a five-day turnaround at Suncorp Stadium.

Brown and his teammates remember the round-19 lesson the Broncos gave them in front of their own fans when they galloped to a 36-14 win.

"We know we had a poor performance against them that week. We let ourselves down in that game," Brown said.

"So it's in our hands now ... We know it's up to us. It doesn't matter what the other teams do."

The Eels moved back up to fifth spot on the ladder with 30 competition points, and only two away from a top-four position.

Parramatta's last regular season game is at home to Melbourne, who are currently in that coveted fourth spot.

The NRL ladder machinations must be occupying Eels fans minds, but not so their coach Brad Arthur.

"The only thing that's important to me right now is that we come with that same want and desire again next week, then I'll worry about the following week after that," he said.
