Eels confirm Ferguson won't be re-signed

Blake Ferguson is clear to make a code switch to rugby union after Parramatta confirmed his departure from the NRL club on Wednesday afternoon.

The ex-NSW and Kangaroos winger was farewelled in a statement by the Eels along with Joey Lussick, Michael Oldfield and Sam Hughes.

Ferguson, 31, was long odds to land another deal with the Eels beyond the end of this season and has publicly spoken about the uncertainty over his playing future.

Most recently he has been linked to a move to rugby union, which would end his 249-game NRL career spent with Cronulla, Canberra and the Sydney Roosters, where he won a premiership in 2018.

His three-year stint with the Eels ended in their 8-6 loss to Penrith in last weekend's semi-finals.

"These players have made a significant contribution to our club particularly Blake Ferguson, who has been part of our squad since 2019," said Eels general manager of football Mark O'Neill.

"The past two years have been challenging for all the players and clubs in the NRL. The commitment of these players during that time is commendable.

"We thank them for their service and commitment to the club and we wish them all the best for their next stage of their careers and lives. They will always be part of our Blue and Gold family."

Lussick will play for St Helens in the UK Super League.
