EE down: phone network crashes as customers complain over lack of phone connection in UK

EE customers across the UK were left frustrated this morning as they reported being unable to access the mobile network.

The website DownDetector recorded a spike in the number of reported outages just before 11am.

The issues appear to have started around 8am and impacted most major cities including London, Birmingham and Glasgow.

An EE spokeswoman told the Standard the outage had been resolved and had lasted a few hours on Tuesday morning.

However customers continued to complain over problems with the network on social media.

A spokesman on Twitter said the company was "aware that a small number of customers are unable to make some calls".

Hundreds of customers took to social media to complain over the issue.

One person wrote: “@EE I am not able to make calls. Even to EE.”

Another writing to EE on Twitter at around 10am said: “@EE why do myself and others have no service?”

They later clarified: “Absolutely none, it won’t let me select ‘Mobile data’ to turn it on and when I go to settings, mobile data, no information pops up - I know others in my area have the same problem.”

Another said they had experienced the issue two days in a row: “@EE is the network down? I can’t make any calls today, same happened yesterday!”

On Twitter just after 11.30am, EE was responding to customers complaints to say they were aware of a “small number” of customers unable to make calls over 4G.

“We’re doing our best to fix this quickly. Please keep retrying, and we apologise for any inconvenience. WiFi calling, as well as text and data services, are not affected.”
