Edwin van der Sar summed up most Manchester United fans' feelings about the draw with Everton as he said it was 's***' on Twitter.
Having led 2-0 at the interval, United conceded two quickfire goals shortly after half-time before Scott McTominay put the Reds back in front with 20 minutes left.
It looked as though United would see the game out relatively comfortably before Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised deep into stoppage time.
It meant three points turned into one as well as a failure to capitalise in advance on dropped points from either Manchester City or Liverpool, or both, when the two sides meet on Sunday.
United played well but the result, combined with a worrying Paul Pogba injury, meant it was a frustrating night for fans.
United fan Usain Bolt asked fellow supporters on Twitter how to sum up the game, asking: "What word should I use?" It prompted a reply from former United goalkeeper Van der Sar, which simply said: "S***".
United appeared to be strolling to victory at half-time as they led 2-0 thanks to goals from Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes, with the Portuguese midfielder curling in a fine strike from the edge of the area.
Yet United were left stunned in the second half as Everton hit back with two goals in three minutes from Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez.
When McTominay headed home in the 70th minute, it looked like they would secure the three points until Calvert-Lewin's late intervention, prodding the ball home from close range after a free-kick had been lofted into the box.
It leaves the Reds sat second, two points off leaders City having played two more games.
